1st KYEDI Academic Seminar — ‘Where Korean youth education stands, and metacognition’ (~05/20)
Hello from the Korean Youth Educational Development Institute (KYEDI).
The Institute will hold its first regular academic seminar, ‘Where Korean youth education stands, and metacognition’.
The seminar asks what educational support young people need in order to design and grow their own lives and careers after they finish school, and explores what metacognition means — and makes possible — in that process.
Young people today must decide for themselves about study, career, employment, and the direction of their lives, amid an abundance of information and options. Where education has centred on knowledge and achievement, education from here on must also address the ability to recognise and judge, for oneself, not just ‘what do I know’ but ‘what do I know, and what do I not know’.
The seminar will therefore look at where Korean youth education stands today, and discuss the role metacognition can play as a core competency for young people's self-understanding and self-directed growth.
