Introducing the K-BvB Four Core Strategies curriculum and the SDI diagnostic

Author R&D TeamPosted 2023.08.16

Hello from the Korean Youth Educational Development Institute (KYEDI).

Drawing on the results of the R&D we have conducted on the basis of the German BvB model, the KYEDI R&D team has developed a Korean K-BvB curriculum designed for the educational environment and career characteristics of young people in Korea.

The curriculum goes beyond supplying job information or employability skills. It sets out core stages of growth: understanding oneself → exploring career possibilities → defining problems for oneself → taking the lead in designing one's career within a changing environment.

As the starting point of the K-BvB curriculum, we have also developed SDI (Self-Design Insight), a youth metacognition diagnostic that lets participants examine their self-understanding and ways of thinking.

SDI is designed to help participants review their strengths, their thinking, the activities they repeatedly perform, and their perception of their own career — and to apply that in later learning and career design.

The four core strategies

  • Metacognition and self-understanding: identifying strengths from the SDI diagnostic, and training in the insight to delegate repetitive work to AI
  • Career exploration and PKM: turning one's own job capabilities into assets, Zettelkasten-style
  • Problem definition and questioning: training in essential inquiry, beyond prompting technique
  • Self-directed career design: taking control of technological change and anxiety, and choosing one's own career path

How the K-BvB curriculum is structured

  • SDI diagnostic → self-understanding → career exploration and knowledge as an asset → problem-definition training → self-directed career design
  • The stages are connected rather than independent: the strengths, experience, and knowledge a participant uncovers at each stage carry forward into the career design that follows.

The curriculum and SDI diagnostic released here are the first educational model to bring the results of our BvB research and K-BvB R&D, pursued since 2022, into Korean youth education practice.

KYEDI will apply K-BvB with young participants, observe and analyse the changes and educational effects, and refine both curriculum and diagnostic. In a changing educational environment, we will keep developing education that helps young people go beyond acquiring skills — to understand themselves, ask their own questions, and take the lead in designing their futures.
