KYEDI K-BvB Youth Mentor Corps — Cohort 1 (~04/25)

Author Steering CommitteePosted 2024.04.08

Hello from the Korean Youth Educational Development Institute (KYEDI).

KYEDI is recruiting the first cohort of the K-BvB Youth Mentor Corps, formed to address aptitude mismatch and early resignation among young workers in Korea from an educational perspective.

Young people's average tenure in a first job is short, and mismatches between their aptitudes or strengths and the actual work continue to send them back to reconsidering their careers soon after joining.

Rather than supplying job information or placing people into work, KYEDI concluded that what is needed is education and mentoring that help young people understand their strengths, thinking, values, and capabilities objectively, and connect that understanding to real career choices.

We are therefore running our first Youth Mentor Corps, applying the K-BvB curriculum and the SDI (Self-Design Insight) diagnostic we have developed to mentoring with young people, and accumulating field experience and data.

The K-BvB Youth Mentor Corps is a group of expert mentors delivering one-to-one metacognitive coaching and K-BvB pilot mentoring in support of young people's self-understanding and career design. A mentor's role is not to recommend a particular career or occupation. It is to support the mentee's thinking through questions and feedback, so that they can look back on their own experience and strengths, examine their current thinking and choices, and judge their own career more independently.

  • Field feedback and case collection — sharing with the research team the concerns and changes observed, and the improvements the curriculum needs, to advance the K-BvB program.
