K-BvB joint interim evaluation — results
KYEDI held a joint interim evaluation to analyse quantitative data from the 150 young people who took part in the first K-BvB Youth Metacognition and Career Design pilot in July 2024, and to share the findings.
The evaluation set out to establish what change K-BvB produces in young people's self-understanding and career design, and to draw out directions for improving the educational model.
Comparing key indicators before and after the program, participants' ‘willingness to redesign their work’ and ‘cognitive flexibility’ rose substantially following K-BvB metacognitive coaching.
This suggests that K-BvB education had a positive effect not merely in supplying career information but in forming a way of thinking that lets people re-examine their current work and career and respond to change.
- Participants evaluated
- 150 young people from K-BvB Pilot 1
- Method
- Pre- and post-comparison of key indicators from participants' quantitative data
Aims of the evaluation
- Reviewing the educational effect of K-BvB metacognitive coaching
- Analysing change in key career and cognitive indicators before and after the program
- Establishing change in participants' career perceptions and behavioural intentions
- Drawing out directions for improving the K-BvB curriculum
Main findings
- Willingness to redesign one's work rose — participants moved beyond simply maintaining their current major or role, towards re-examining their strengths, values, and experience and adjusting and redesigning their careers themselves.
- Cognitive flexibility rose — the ability to take in new information and perspectives rather than remaining fixed on existing judgements, and to revise one's approach where needed, improved.
Directions for further R&D
- Further tracking of change among Pilot 1 participants
- Analysis of the specific program elements and activities with the largest effect
- Examination of differences in effect by participant characteristics
- Analysis of the relationship between SDI results and educational outcomes
- Further research on the relationships between metacognition, cognitive flexibility, and career design
- Validation of curriculum improvements through a second pilot
This analysis matters because it applied the results of K-BvB research and development, pursued since 2022, to 150 actual participants and confirmed the effect quantitatively. In doing so, the first pilot completed for the first time the full development cycle: research → model development → field application → validation of effect.
KYEDI will treat these results not as a program outcome alone but as the basis of the research data needed to verify K-BvB's educational effect objectively and improve it continuously. As AI and technological change accelerate, we will keep building an educational system in which young people understand their own situation, ask their own questions, and design their own careers, rather than following answers set elsewhere.
